How do you size a ridge beam
Building an 8' x 24' tiny house and need to know for sure how to size a ridge beam. Need the ridge beam to be 26' long. Rafters are 2X4s and only go out about 5' on each side . Some blueprints show 3-2x4s fastened together for the ridge beam, this will only be supported at the two ends because it is has a cathedral ceiling! Was thinking of a lvl, a 1-3/4 x 7-1/4 x 26' beam weighs 75 lbs and cost about $80. Other option is 3-2" x 6"s connected together, thinking maybe this would be straighter and stronger than 2x4s. Anybody have any good ideas on this one!
