I want to put a washer and dryer in my basement, but will need to do the plumbing from scratch. There is a floor drain in the area (about 5 feet away) where the furnace drains. It there any way to tap into this? I realize I will probably have to break up the concrete floor and dig to the drain. Is this going to work? Also, what about venting? Will I need to run a pipe to the roof, if is that floor drain already vented somehow? {e-mail removed}. Thank you a million times!

I can't answer about the drain, but for venting the dryer, you just need to run duct work to the outside. You can use flexible ducting to a vent through the wall or in a window. This ducting needs to be accessible and regularly cleaned of lint build up.

Venting the washer drain or the dryer exhaust? Does your sewer stack exit the home by going through the floor or through the wall?

This if what you will have to install. (See image) remove the floor drain and connect to that. The vent may be a AAV.(automatic Air Vent) if allowed. If not run the vent out the roof or revent back in the attic. Good luck, Tom
