    Equilibrium and elasticity
Suppose the length L of a uniform bar is 3 m and its weight is 200 N. also, let the block's weight be 300 N. A wire connected to a wall at C and the uniform bar at B has an angle of 30 degrees at the connection at B and can withstand a tension of 500 N. Also the bar is attached to the wall at A by a hinge. (a) what is the maximum distance the box can be placed before the wire breaks? (b) with the block placed at this maximum distance what is the vertical and horizontal components of the force on the bar from the hinge at A?

Without seeing the figure that accompanies this problem it's impossible to answer the question. However, we won't simply give you the answeer - you should show us your attempt at solving it, and then we will be happy to help. But here's a hint: to determine the tension in the rope you first need to determine the vertical component of force that it applies to the bar such that the sum of moments at point A is zero.
