    Head injury
My 6 year old daughter was told to get the hammer off the top of the refrigerator and when she got it down other items fell on the floor. I asked her to pick them up and when she did and went to come up, I was standing there with the hammer in my hand and she hit her head on the end of the hammer(the pointy side) . I looked and she was crying but fine. We went outside and I noticed that she had a little cut in the middle of her forehead by her left eye. It was not bleeding bad but I need to know what I should do to make sure there is not any other damage.

So what did she climb up on to get the hammer, at six years old? And of you could reach it, why did you ask her?

I can't imagine what the wound looks like, but from your description you had better get her in for a proper diagnosis, plus a tetanus shot from a dirty metal hammer. Got that right ?

Wow...I am trying to imagine the circumstances that led to this...and to be honest, I am wondering if we're hearing the whole story.

She needs to be seen as Tickle said.

Personally, I don't see anything that should cause any panic, if it's the way you describe.

So long as she isn't lethargic, having severe behaviour changes, or any other sign of a severe concussion or brain injury than your should be find. The cuts will heal on their own, keep them clean and apply a topical antibiotic and she'll be fine. You might want to adjust the way you do things to prevent this from happening again.

Clean the cut with hydrogen peroxide. Tetanus is rare and they have medication for that.

I had a cut that didn't bleed much but required three stitches. Could you take her to the pediatrician tomorrow to make sure? If stitches are required, they numb up the area and she won't even feel the needle. Not even the one for the lidocaine.

It's probably nothing but I'm extra careful with kids. I have two three year olds and one of them thought he was Superman for a month. I'm so glad he quit and has moved on to being a rock star.
