I was cutting grass and all of a sudden the tractor just stopped, so suddenly it threw me forward into the steering wheel. I dropped the cutting deck and pulled all the covers but see nothing broken. The mower is 20 years old and it's been a good one, but at this point I'm wondering if it's worth repairing.

Not clear if the machine stopped forward motion or the engine stopped causing everything to stop. If it is the latter, I would guess it is an engine failure. If it is the former, then it could be a belt or the bearings of the variable speed pulley.
