I want to install my Hampton Bay ceiling fan on a preexisting circuit that is on a dimmer switch. Will the fan work and will the dimmer control the speed?

What kind of dimmer? Cannot use a light dimmer on a fan. Need a fan dimmer.

Lights operate on resistance, fans on inductance, that's why you need a special dimmer.
