Hi, I'v had my mini schnauzer for four days now. He's an awesome puppy, I haven't had a lot of training issues with him. When he has an accident inside I put his nose in it then rub his nose on a potty pad. He's 8 1/2 weeks old and already uses the pads but only for emergencies, when he starts smelling around or walking in circles he has to potty. I know the method I use may be kind of barbaric, but he listens and uses the pad's if he's having an emergency. The problem I'm having is that he cries when I leave his sight. I'v read where mini's will get attached, but when I go to my classes that's the only time he's in the cage and my roommates get home shortly after I leave and they say he won't stop crying unless he has a piece of my clothing to sleep on. It's not really I problem, but I would like to know how to get him to where I'm not the only person he will come to, or even listen to. He sleeps in the bed with me and isn't a problem when he moves I wake up and take him potty, but should I not let him sleep with me so he won't be as clingy to me?

Your puppy is not even 9 weeks old so he's learning his way still. Dogs are pack animals so it's natural he's want to be with his pack, which is you. He is still learning crate behavior so it's okay for him to cry. Does he have fun toys in there? You could also leave a sock of yours or anything that smells like you. When you leave he is confused so you want to make it as comfortable as you can for him when you are gone.

And trust me, you haven't seen clingy until you've had a wolf hybrid. Oy vey!

Please, please, please don't do this. He has no clue why you are rubbing his nose in his pee or poo, despite what you think. Our dog experts will be responding during the day to give you some good tips on potty training. Can you go outdoor easily since it sound like you are in college? And pee pads mean to him he can pee or poo on anything soft, like a blanket or clothes on the floor. That's the wrong kind of training.
