Back Pay Upon Settling a Union Contract Months After It Expired
I worked for a municipality wherein my pay raises where governed by the union contract. Due to disabling illness, I had to resign my position. At the time that I separated from the municipality, May of 2013, the 2013 union contract and negotiated pay raise had not been settled. Subsequently, the union contract was settled and ratified in October of 2013.

My question is: Even though I was not employed when the contract was settled, am I due back pay for the months I worked in that contract year, i.e. January 2013 through May 2013?

Please do not direct me to the president of the union--for personal reasons, that is not an option. Thank you kindly for your assistance with this inquiry.

Problem solved. I telephoned the Payroll Department and they verified that no one received back retroactive pay upon ratification of the union contract.

Yes, I was going to say that it would depend upon what the new contract says about retroactive pay.
