I have data in my Outlook. How to take up OUTLOOK data backup(inbox, sentitems, contacts etc. ) without using any specific software. Then after installing the new OS, I want to export these backup data to outlook.

I have data in my Outlook also. It is also my understanding that installing a new operating system is not supposed to destroy data. I may be wrong on that point, though. Anyway, I'm not going to be taking any chances with the stuff that I really want to save.

There are a few ways that I use to back up my email files. They do not require any special software. But, they do require having another hard drive or a CD burner.

I open my Outlook Express, or whatever email client I am using, create a new folder on my desktop, put the cursor on the individual email that I want to save and drag it to the new folder. Then burn the contents of that new folder to a CD.

Another way that I have saved emails is to attach another hard drive to my hard drive and move the items that I want to save to it. It is not as hard as it might seem to be. Just need to know where to place the jumpers on the hard drives.

The third way that I use to back-up emails, or any other important documents for that matter, is to email them to a friend who has enough room on their hard drive to store them.
