    Extreme fatigue in early pregnancy
I've heard it's normal to get tired during early pregnancy. But I am beyond tired! All I want to do is sleep, at times I have to take a break at work "I drive a lot for my job" because I can feel myself getting heavy eyed. I am taking a prescription prenatal vitamin and I am getting plenty of sleep at night. I am just wondering if I should be concerned or if there is something that I could add to my diet to alleviate the sleepiness.

    Hi eaeason,

While it would be wise to mention it to your doctor or midwife, as there are some things they might decide to check for, it is likely just due to being pregnant. As you heard, being very tired, especially in early pregnancy, is very normal. I can remember contemplating pulling over to take a nap on my way home from work a number of times!

Eat well, frequent smaller "meals" throughout the day being better than 3 larger ones, get some easy exercise, and get plenty of rest. Take naps when you can... go to bed a bit earlier if need be, making sure the environment is conducive to quality sleep, catch up on sleep on weekends if necessary.

After the early weeks, you will likely have more energy.

I agree with Doula, I was always exhausted in early pregnancy! It's amazing how much energy you loose with a tiny little embryo developing in there. It definitely prepares you for after your little one arrives and sleep becomes a distant memory. ;)
