I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and was having some cramping so I was worried and went to the hospital last night. They have me a vagional ultrasound and said that they saw a little bit of blood in the gestational sac and some fluid on my uterus. My main concern is the blood and I was wondering If that was common and if not is that a sign of miscarrage? I'm trying to stay as calm as possible and not to worry but this is my first pregnancy so it's inevitable!

What did the doctors say? You've been discharged so they must have gone over the ultrasound with you. What did they say?

I was going to ask the same question of the OP. Surely they explained the entire ultrasound with her? If they were concerned, I hope they would have said so.

I would follow up with your OBGYN. Sadly we really can't tell you what's going on. The best source of info is your doctor, who hopefully reviews the ultrasound you had done. We really can't offer any advice in this matter.

The doctor had told me that they aren't sure yet and can't see into the future. I said could that mean threatened miscarriage? He said "well like I said I can't see into the future." It's almost like he was trying not to say something that could be potentially wrong. Which is understandable. He had told me to wait until my u/s with my OB on the 18th. Then yesterday I had called my OB to give them the rest of my information and I had told them about me visiting the hospital. We hung up and 20 min later I get a call from the nurse saying can I come in tues for an ultrasound. So that made me nervous. I was just curious if anyone on here had had this and if so if it turned out OK? Thank you for all of your responses.

As a guy who has had children the process of monitoring the health of a pregnant female is at best a frustrating process to go through. I can imagine its much worse for a female actually going through it but relax and don't get carried away by fear because NOBODY can know what will happen next. All you can do is endure the step by step process of watching how you progress.

Yes we spent a lot of time on follow up visits and further tests. The hard part is the first time not knowing how to handle this new, life changing experience. I know you are just nervous and afraid and need reassurances and all I can tell you is it will be okay. Very trying but okay.

As an obstetrical nurse, I have to agree with the ER doctor. At this early stage the blood could be benign and reabsorb end into your body, while it also might represent a threatened miscarriage. Now I don't say this to worry you, as worry can affect the pregnancy, I say this because it is fact.

Cramping can be common in early pregnancy as long as it is not accompanied with bright red period-like bleeding.

Thank you for your responses everyone! It made me feel much better. I will just take it easy and see how the appt with my OB goes on Tuesday.

Have you been for an u/s yet?

I also had really bad cramping the first few weeks of my pregnancy.. But everything was fine with my next u/s. I now have a beautiful, healthy baby boy who is two weeks and two days today.. It can be quite common in pregnancy to get cramping like yours.. Just try to keep calm =)

Yes I am currently 7 weeks now and saw my beautiful baby's heartbeat. Everything is great. Besides passing out today and the morning sickness lol but it is all worth it. Congrats on your baby boy! :)

Wonderful news. A heartbeat at 7 weeks, that's amazing. My last pregnancy I had a doppler at 9 weeks and was told not to worry when no heartbeat was detected, since it was way too early. That was almost 9 years ago. The technology since then, is amazing.

I won't lie. That last pregnancy, no heartbeat was ever detected. I lost the baby at 12 weeks, and almost died myself.

But I have 2 healthy children, before this miscarriage. One is 15, the other 11. With both, their heartbeat wasn't detected until 12 weeks gestation. What they can do now, amazes me.

I am sorry to hear about your m/c . But I am do happy you have healthy children'. :) yes I am very excited that they found it and I am continuing to pray for a healthy baby. Thank you and I will forsure keep you posted. My next appt is the 18th. :) I'll update then.
