Trying to conceive.. 4 years now. I am 34 days late. Have had 8 negative urine tests and a negative blood test. Been super emotionally sensitive lately, nauseated, gasy, have had tender and sensitive breasts with large blue veins and tiny purplish ones (they weren't even tender like this when they were growing) as well all over body aches as well as cramps in my lower belly. My mother, aunt and cousins all had negative tests until they were 5 months or more along. I am very frustrated and just don't know what to do. My doctor has practically written me off as a head case, telling me that no one can be pregnant with a negative blood test. But if I am not pregnant what is wrong with me? Why am I going through all this crap?

Your boobs don't start making large visible changes until after the first trimester. Blood tests are more sensitive than the pee tests are. But yes... with those a few women don't test positive until the third trimester with pee tests (the HPT's)...

Can't say I've heard that about the blood tests... but I'm sure others will comment on it soon enough.

Sometimes pregnancy hormones don't catch up for about three or four months, so you test negative until they do. Simple.

Since you have been trying for 4 years have you and your husband visited a fertility specialist? Pregnancy is still a possibility and it may have been too early in the pregnancy for tests to register positive.

Actually, this is inaccurate. You see, there are only 3 trimesters in a pregnancy. Each trimester is 12 weeks, or 3 months, in length. Typically, the latest a woman tests positive is at about the 12th or 13th week of pregnancy, this would be the end of the first trimester/beginning of the second trimester. The third trimester consists of 6 through 9 months (weeks 28 through 40) of pregnancy.

My cousin had her baby 4years ago. 6 hours after a negative hpt. And her doctor said her blood test was negative 3 weeks before that.

That is absolutely the exception, not the rule. That is a very rare finding.

I had a gyn say I had pcos a few years ago but when they checked me 4 months ago they said I had no cysts. That's part of what makes this hard for me. My gyn will tell me I'm not pregnant because of the blood test but he won't put in the time to figure out what's going on with me. I don't know what to do. If I am pregnant I would be between 6-7 weeks. My last period was jan 26th and that was 12 days later than normal. Before that my periods had been regular starting between the 15th and the 17th every Month. I just don't know what to do. I guess I will keep taking my vitamins and trying to stay healthy as possible until I bleed or I test positive. I just hope the dizziness and nearly fainting goes away.

Many OBs will say to wait until you believe you are around 13 weeks pregnant. At that time, you should test using first morning urine. If still negative, make and appointment with your OB for a blood test. If that is also negative, you should request an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy or ovarian cysts.

How were you being treated for your PCOS?

Correct... that was an inadvertent typo I didn't catch. I should have typed first trimester as I did earlier in that response. Thanks for catching that.

As for the pcos my last appointment said I had no cycsts. As for treatment its diet based due to some research I did. Certain foods can be used to effect pcos. My doctor and I try to use diet and hollistic aids to treat any issues that arrise. I used to have cysts burst regularly and now I have none.

I will try testing again in 7-8 weeks but until then I will try to just take my women's multivitamins and take care of myself until then.

Well, still no period and according to my period tracker this is the second one I've missed. Still not getting anywhere with my doctor but that's nothing new.

Has it been determined that you are ovulating regularly? Your diet changes may have helped with some symptoms of PCOS, but ovulation should be monitored, at least at first, to know that it is occurring. While regular periods suggest this to be so, with PCOS it is not automatic.

Has your partner had any fertility testing done? Have you had any other fertility testing done?

If you don't feel that your doctor is being very supportive, is it possible for you to change? Maybe get recommendations from friends/coworkers. You might even ask about being referred to a reproductive endocrinologist.

I've been trying to track my ovulation cycles using a period tracking calendar... I didn't have ovulation test strips until recently. If my period is still mia next month I will be going back to my gyn specialist and asking him to do an exam. Because its very rare for me to miss a period, never mind two. And if I'm not pregnant I want to know what's going on. Because its rather frustrating when they just rule out one thing and drop the issue without further questions to find out what is wrong. Its as if they really don't give a damn. They leave me with more questions and next to no answers.

I agree about getting a second opinion with another OB doctor. You could also insist for an ultrasound. That will give you a definitive answer.

Lots of good information here. I just wanted to offer support and reiterate the need for another opinion. My sister struggles with PCOS and wasted a lot of time with an unsupportive doc. She finally found another and has never been happier, or treated better, than she is now. I hope you find some answers very soon. GL!

Well I still haven't had a perod, 42 days late now. The nausea has finally gotten a bit better. But now my stomach has been a bit cramped up though.

Just an update still no period and still no positive test. 64 days late now

Again, it would be wise to see your doctor or perhaps a different one if you are not satisfied with who you have seen already. You said that you were told that you had PCOS before... how was this determined? It is something that you might want to look into again if they had reason to believe it was a proper diagnosis. Not all women will have cysts with PCOS. Certainly other possible causes should be looked at as well. First step would be to find a doctor that you trust is giving you the care that you need.
