I have a sump pump that was installed when the house was built in approx. 1941. I have some small places where water leaks in. I don't have the money to repair the foundation. I was going to put another sump down there but thought, since I purchased a new one can I just dig out the old one deeper and wider to fit the liner? This one is all cement except for the bottom of it. Would this help drainage to it? I don't think it has a waiy in since the walls are cement and instead of going lower it tries to get in through the basement above the sump line.

I'm a believer in having a totally perforated sump pit so as much water as is possible can get into the sump pump so if you have the time and are willing to do the work it certainly can't hurt your home, especially during spring thaws and major rain storms!

Will it help the perimeter of the foundation...maybe, but I can't promise that, OK? What I can tell you is to inspect the gutters outside the home and if needed direct the gutters further from the home by installing extensions if needed. Today, they even make HINGED extensions so you can drop the gutter extensions most of the time but raise them when you need to mow the lawn (available at all home improvement stores that I know of).
