Hi, I purchased a small over the counter Danby dishwasher and it is working fine. The upstairs neighbour (old apartment building) complained that he cannot use the hot water while my dishwasher is on. The Landlord wants me to have a check valve installed under the kitchen sink and pay for it myself. Would this settle the issue of hot water usage? Thank you.

I do not see that this value would effect the usage of your water.

You have an over the counter dishwasher where the drain and water connect together to the sink spout, right? If that is correct then your DW is probably mixing the hot and cold water together and causing issues as stated...not totally unreasonable in an apartment situation...;)

Here, installing check valves at the hot and cold water supply to the faucet under the sink is a relatively inexpensive proposition all in all. The check valves just get screwed onto the shutoffs under the sink and the flexible faucet supplies connect to the check valve. If the landlord is a nice guy he may install them for you if you agree to pay for them (about $20.00 a piece)...they just screw on!!
