Is the cost on health insurance for F2 deductible from taxes?
I am a F1-visa holder. My son, a F2-visa holder, who is less than 15 year old, came in the US last July. My husband has never been in the US. I have the following questions regarding taxes.

    1. I bought health insurance for my son in the last Aug. Is this cost deductible from taxes?
    2. I paid a part of the cost for my surgery last year. Is this cost deductible from taxes?
    3. I paid the travel expense for my son to come here. Is this expense deductible from taxes?
    4. Can I fill out tax forms as married jointly?
    5. My son is completely financially dependent on me. Can I therefore get more money back from the tax?

What types of tax forms related to questions above will be used?

    Huge Thanks in Advance

1 & 2) No. Health costs are NOT deductibel for non-resident aliens.

    3) Yes. It is a valid moving expense.

    4) No; non-resident aliens CANNOT file jointly.

    5) Depends on your nationality. Japanese (under the old tax treaty), mexican, Canadians, South Koreans and Indians can claim dependents while on F-1 status.

You need to file Form 1040NR for 2006, plus Form 8843.
