Usually they will send you a letter telling you how they amended your return and explain when and how the balance will be paid-check, direct deposit etc. Typically you have to do nothing else.

Did you not claim your unemployment income on your return? Didn't you get a 1099G?

What do you mean by "rest of your refund". Did you already get a refund based on your original filing? What did the letter from the IRS actually say?

If you neglected to include your unemployment payments on your return and you did not have taxes withheld from those payments, there is a possibility that you won't be getting a refund but owe taxes.

Both Ma0641 and Scott raises good points.

If you received a check and since you mention "rest of refund", it sounds like you got what you consider a portion of your refund, but the check you received is most likely the amount you are due, after they made the correction. The "rest of refund" as you call it may have been the additional tax you owed. You can check the "Where's My Refund" site and may be able to determine if they show anything pending with your return. If you see on that site that your refund was sent, IRS likely considers it a done deal.

Can you clarify a little more? Did you receive a check with or near the time you were notified that IRS made adjustments?

If the IRS sent you a letter telling you WHY they adjusted the refund, then I agree with SmearCase, the IRS probably considers your case CLOSED.

Not even clear whether you overcollected UI (after getting a new job) or didn't pay taxes on UI, or both.
