What exactly are the consequences of thyroid's?
Also side-effects? Loss of weight or weight gain?

I have a friend who is 5ft2", she weighs about 39-42kilo's.
She has thyroids in her family and her mum is worried about her weight. I have seen my friend eat and she does... I myself can't understand why she weighs so little. Her mum asked her to go the doctor to check it out. My friend is concerned now as she said her cousin had it and now she is FAT due to thyroids, then she said she'd rather die then be fat!!

Just so you know Krs, we ALL have a thyroid gland. As Laural points out above, some are overactive and some are underactive, but most of us are pretty normal.

How bad can it be if its untreated?
Like in my friends case, she doesn't seem eager to treat it because she is scared she will get fat!

There are meds out there the would PREVENT her from getting fat if she has an underactive thyroid, Synthroid for one. So she should see her doctor and take her meds. If she does not, and she has an underactive thyroid, she most likely will get fat.

I have an over active thyriod and take beta blockers for it but I also have a rather large goitre and that's been looked at too I'm still in the process of being poked and prodded so to speak.

Treating thyroids is quite a specialty. They have to be fine tuned; abnormalities can be found with a simple blood test. My last blood work showed mine was out of wack but not enough for medication. Thyroid problems can even run to depression in women.
