Will they be able to tell I haven't been drinking?
So I got a call from my PO stating I failed a test for an EtG, but I haven't drank. Did take some Robitussin DM for a cold I had got and went to the doctor and received Jordan for my stomach. I have been looking up everyithing that could make me fail this EtG. I payed for the second test. Will they be able to tell I haven't been drinking?

It is hard to tell. There are false positive. You just need to keep in contact with your PO.

    Robitussin has alcohol in it.

As J_9 states... Robitussin has alcohol in it so it was a legitimate fail. Its your responsibility to seek out the alcohol free formulations... and it is VERY easy to buy Cough medicines that are alcohol free these days. Would have taken you at most an extra minute to have found them on the shelf at the drug store.

It didn't say it in the ingredients or inactive ingredients, but my po said that people get positives from robbitussin dm.

Yeah.. because it has alcohol in it... if you read the ingredients it tells you it has it. In many cases it's a major ingredient.

The alcohol free formulations advertise it on the packaging. But when you are under a restriction... you can't make assumptions... you always have to read them. And make sure your doctor prescribes alcohol free formulations.

If this is how it happened, you know now. So the PO will not keep believe too many accidents, so you need to watch.

And yes, it does list it as one of the main items

On the bottle it said alcohol free and I went and got another bottle to see but couldn't find the exact one I got but it does not say alcohol in the active or inactive ingredients. So is there another name that I should be looking for besides alcohol or ethanol in the ingredients?

There are many different types of Robitussin. Which exact brand did you take?

If it said alcohol free, and you have to more than just believe it... it will be very clear on the packaging lable... and it won't have any in the list of ingredients... then you consumed the alcohol from another source.

All I need to know is Will the confirmation tea show that I did not ingest liquor? I talked to my therapist and she said that my levels were at 576 and the cut off is 500. So can someone please sooth my worries. I've called Pfizer and they said that only one of thsir robbitussins contains alcohol, bit when I go in line it show that moat of them have as little as 1.5 to 3.6 percent of alcohol.

But you did ingest alcohol from the medicine. More than likely you will be retested and will fall below the cut off. Until then relax with the knowledge that you didn't intentionally ingest alcohol, but now you know to be more careful what you do ingest.

What is the penalty for this failure?

Jail and after that I am not sure

Then I suggest you relax and see what your PO decides to do about your fail, and hopefully they take into account you were sick and medicated with the wrong thing.

Chances are they may give you the benefit of a doubt if you have been doing the right things before this incident. Have you?

Yes I had failed a ua for alcohol once before. But when my po asked me I told the truth and admitted to my use. I figure there is no use in lying . I have been honest since day one of this program, even if it meant for me to be reprimanded .
