I'm 18 I live in Florida I would like to move out of my parents house asap but they are not okay with that how can I leave my house and get my own place with out their okay? This is my last year of high school I have 9 more weeks until I graduate. I have my own place already waiting on me.

If you are 18 and want to leave you leave. Pack your things (only your things not things they have provided you as a privilege of living under their roof) and go. How is it that they are keeping you from moving?

For the record I completely understand their "not being okay" with you moving. They want you to succeed in life. If you move now, having not even graduated high school yet, will make it harder.

Just pack up and go. You are 18 and an adult.

Sure you can... you pack your own stuff up (not their stuff like the furniture) and move. DO you have a job, the money for rent and the deposit.. utilities and food?

You do understand you aren't entitled to any money as an adult, or any other form of help..

With 9 weeks left in high school... I'd like to know how you managed to pull that off. Most people with actual full time jobs just starting out have a hard enough time earning enough money to do that.

If you have a place, you muse have signed a lease after you turned 18. That would also mean that you passed a credit check to make sure you can afford the place. So move. But don't expect mom and dad to help you.

I do want to leave I want to pack MY stuff and leave. I can afford everything I need. Its just 9 weeks until I graduate. I know for a fact I can do this. I already have everything I need to do this. I just wasn't sure if I could really just pack my stuff and leave like I want to. I kind of want to wait after high school but I kind of want to leave soon it's a 50/50 thang. I'm just scared of how my mother and father will react I don't want to break their hearts. Cause I do love them but I'm tired of cleaning up everyday after them plus my twin brother. I want my own privacy.

Life is a trade off, independence for some hurt feelings. After all it's a life changing event for you and your parents. After 18 years you can't wait 9 more weeks?

You do all the grocery shopping, cooking, baking, laundry, and bill paying too? Are you going it alone or will you have a roommate? How about having a family meeting and talking about everyone's responsibilities and need to cooperate? You definitely don't want to move out and regret it three months from now -- and then have to beg to come back home again.

You know for a fact? Really... how do you know for a fact you can afford the rent, all the utilities, food... Car, the insurance and all the other costs if you expect to have one, money to buy clothes and anything else you need.


I happen to know for a fact its hard for recent COLLEGE graduates to do (WITH roomates)... its going to be far more difficult for a recent high school graduate with no special skills.

All of use have actually been through this before... so understand that we are all curious how you managed to overcome all the obsticals you are going to have to deal with living on your own. And not just the financial ones.


Seriously...I'm not saying that to be mean.....I'm wanting to see how prepared you really are to do this. And not just how prepared you might think you are.

Hate to bring on reality but you don't know for a fact that you can do it. You think you can but you do not know for a fact. Have you figured out how much each week you need to feed yourself? Have you purchased your own car yet? Insured that car? Put gas in that car? Look at your parents utility bills to get an idea of how much those are going to cost. Also find figure out how much you will have to pay for your phone, shampoo, soap, dish soap, sponges, trash bags, toilet paper, light bulbs, and on and on.

You aren't even sure you want to move! If you are only 50/50 don't move and regret it. Are leaving for college in the fall?

If they were planning on going to college in the fall... and pull this off... I can all but assure mom and dad will pull the plug on paying for it.

Dude I go this it isn't hard to do I can and have beentakin care of myself for years isn't hard. Trust me you make me want to pack my stuff tonight and go just to PROVE an 18 can do anything he or she puts their mind to.

Dude, I pay the bills in the house. I make food do ALL chores. Clean cook go to work school maintain great grades keep up with the fishing team I am on. I can do it so stop doubtin bro. trust me when I say dude I got this. I have agreat paying job so does my amazing boyfriend. I already have a scholoar ship fir college. So I'm good to go. Nothing to worry about cause money deff isn't the prob in this case the prob was Needing TO KNOW CAN I PACK MY STUFF AT 18 AND LEAVE AND WELL I GOT MY ANSWER.

Really... you are aware you just showed your maturity level with that comment. As well as how little you really do know about the real world and what you are going to have to face.

But then... some people have to learn things the hard way... have at it. You will only hurt yourself and your relationship with your family.

And incidentally... one of the ABSOLUTE TRUTHS about life... is an 18 year old CAN NOT do anything they set out to do or puts their mind to do. THey can consider themselves if they can accomplish even small things without a lot of time and effort... and by time I mean years... not hours days or weeks.

You will learn that soon enough. Its going to be a bitter pill to swallow. Just remember we told you so.

Do you honestly think you know more about this than the rest of us all of whom have beenactually there, not just imagined it?. many of us with college educations first... meaning we had a head start at a higher paying job than you do?

Just don't burn your bridges first.

People that NEED to do things out of spite...really are going to crash and burn almost all of the time....because doing things on impulse...are the absolute opposite of doing things after they are planned out...properly. Including backup plans when you find your first plans were unrealistic.


Sorry but in my world actual experience trumps dreams every time. And I had my share at your age too. I make more than you can dream of right now....and I still can't afford all of the dreams I had at 18. It took me almost 35 years after that to afford some of them.

So the short answer is, YES, you can leave.

Go out and face the real world on your own.

That's why we have weed to help us thorugh the "real world" no worries just happy daze.

I have to say... you sound just like EVERY 18 year old kid I know. I was there too! My birthday is in September so 95% of my senior year in high school I was already 18 and could have moved. I wanted to some times too! Not only did I have one younger brother in high school but my baby brother was born in the middle of my sophomore year. Guess what... I was smart enough to know that actually going through with my plan to move out wasn't going to help me. Not even to prove to my parents that I could! I did move when I went to college!

So, legally can you move? Yes, absolutely. Is anyone here that has been 18 (and a WHOLE lot wiser now believe it or not) going to tell you that is what would be in your best interest? NO. I'm still young enough I don't always want to sound like my parents telling youngsters these things. I'll do it though if I think it will help someone.
