1992 Honda Accord TDC Sensor
I have a 1992 Honda Accord LX 2.2L sedan with an annoying little problem. The check engine light is on and the motor will absolutely not rev past 3500RPM despite the fact that it should be able to hit 6500RPM during hard acceleration (passing cars, fast 0-60, etc.) and exceed 3500RPM at speeds greater than 85MPH. After checking the codes it spit out 1, 3, 8. So, I replaced the O2 sensor and the MAP sensor and now it is only reading code 8 which is TDC Position. From the research I've done, the TDC sensor is inside the distributor and will require replacement of the distributor to fix the problem. AutoZone has a distributor for $90 ($150-$60 Core charge) but they don't know if it has the sensor in it, and at the time I didn't even know what it was. Now that I know it means Top Dead Center I assume the TDC Sensor is in the top center of the distributor.
Am I right on the location of the TDC Sensor, and does it sound like this could actually be causing my entire problem?
Please help, 3 years is too long to have a car that can be out accelerated by a 3 year old on a tricycle!!
Thank you,
