Water, water and more water, cranberry juice helps a lot and helps keep them away.

And some great drugs from your doctor till they pass.
* I have been shot, stabbed several times, hit with chains, clubs and the sort. There was never any pain that hurt me as bad as kidney stones.

A kidney stone that is too large to pass will obstruct your ureter and can cause permanent damage. A stone that is too large to pass dosen't cause any more pain than a small stone so you won't know until you have a CT scan.

What is so painful is the sharp edges of the stone. (Kidney stones aren't smooth... they look like grass burs) The stone scrapes the wall of the ureter causing excrutiating pain. The pain may come and go because the stone will stop and then travel more.

As a person with lots of experience with kidney stones, I have had a total of 23. It is a fact that if you have a kidney stone the possibility of having another is very great.
The best way to go about solving the problem of stones is to go to a Dr. and let him treat you as you are passing the stone if it will pass. After you are rid of the stone let the Dr analyze it and find out what it is made up of and that will give you a hint of some types of food to avoid. Mine were the type that had something to do with the product that is use to cure bacon, therefore I was to avoid bacon. He can possibly help you from producing many more stones.
I recommend you drink lots of liquid, Coffee, Tea, Beer and many others are all diuretics and will help to flush the kidneys. Any time that you have color in your urine you are not drinking enough, unless you are taking vitamins or something that would color your urine.

The last few stones I had were removed with a machine called a lithotripter which blast the stones with a sonic beam. It blasts them into a sand and they are then easy to flush out by normal kidney functions.
