    Terminating my roommate lease
    Hi,

My previous roommate moved out and recommended my current roommate two years ago. I had her added to the lease. Everything in the apartment with the exception of her bedroom furniture is mine. Now after two years I don't want to have a roommate anymore and would rather live in the apartment by myself. Does she have a legal right to the lease or can I just tell that when the lease expires I will not be renewing it with her. Does the fact that I was occupying the apartment first give me any more rights than her? I want our parting to be amicable but in case she wants to fight I'd like to know what I'm up against. All the bills are in my name and the rent is paid by me and all landlord correspondence is addressed to me.

Any advise will be much appreciated, thanks.

If she is listed as a tenant on the lease, then she has an equal right to the lease. Unless she was subletting from you, you have no way of legally forcing her out.
