    Constant whining in crate
    Hi,

Typically my 2 1/2 male Dachshund, Max, is fine in his crate, but if he is not
Sleepy when it's time to go to bed he will whine incessantly. I don't want to let
Him out just because he is whining because he will continue to do it. This is causing a
Lot of sleepless nights. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

With new 7 week olds, I have found lying down in front of the crate works like chloroform. A 2 1/2 month/year? One? One solution is to tire him out. Does he fetch? Or a good walk. There is always the Kong with peanut butter in it.

Max is 2 1/2 years old. Usually he doesn't get tired out during the day because of my work hours. I tried a Kong before and he ate both the Kong and the peanut butter! He's a big chewer. I don't leave him outside during the day because he chewed a hole in the wooden fence.

I am a dachund owner myself, and my dog has separation anxiey that I am currently working out. Here are a few suggestions that has worked out for me.
-Try moving the crate to the bedroom, beside the bed at night, and slowly move it away every other day or two until you have the crate in the location where you want it.
-Buy him a special toy/treat that he only get's when he goes into his crate.
-When he begins to whine, scold him with a stern voice and say "NO WHINE"
Or what I do that works GREAT! Is that I have a small dog bed on top of my dresser that he sleeps in at night that is right beside my bed. He can't get down from it so he stays in his bed all night and sleeps. He rather sleep there than in a crate. I only use my crate for when I leave the house for a long period.
    I hope this helps :)

Thanks, Jessyfay. That was helpful. I think I may have to let him sleep out of the crate. The crate is actually in my bedroom, and he shares it with his brother Lucky, a 5 year old Beagle. Before I got Lucky, I would let Max sleep on a bed which he liked. Lucky has to sleep in the crate because he has bladder issues and would go on the carpet without letting me know he needs to go outside.

    Thanks, again.
