Burning fossil fuels (carbon based fuels) releases carbon dioxide and occasionally sulphuroxides into the atmosphere. Carbondioxide prevents heat from being reflected back into space and so the world stays warm. There is natural carbondioxide but burning fossil fuels increases how much is in the atmosphere.
