    Furance needs to be replaced
We found out yesterday that our furance needs to be replaced. So now we are in a home with a family of 5 with no heat. We were told it could take 4 days to have it replaced. We are using the fireplace and space heaters. We actually had to travel to get some space heaters. What is the law in regards to tenants not having heat in the home when its 10 degrees out? If any what is required by the landlord to do?

Up to 4 days with the recent weather is not unreasonable. Tell the LL you want to go to a motel and that they should pay for it. However, you did indicate you have space heaters and a fireplace.

Here is the problem we are running into now. The circuit breakers keep popping. So they aren't stay on long enough to heat up a room.

Did your landlord tell you that the furnace needs to be replaced? If not, be sure to immediately notify the landlord of the problem. And if the electric space heaters are tripping the breakers you are using circuits that are not adequate. I would be concerned about a possible fire, if I were you.

Put on some warm clothes, and extra blankets on your beds.

Yes we contacted him on sat when we came home and the home was 57 and set for 70. Service guy came yesterday and told me and landlord it has to be replaced. Also by law he had to turn the furance off. The kids are bunkered into 1 room together with blankets and layered of clothing.
