You had twins, be it fraternal or identical, and the embryo just didn't develop. This actually happens more often then you would believe. A lot go relatively unnoticed. The upside is that you have a growing child in your belly.

I experienced this as well. My daughter was born in 2009 but her twin stopped developing and was deemed a "blighted ovum" at just over 7 weeks along.
