No flame at furnace. Repairman said this (pictured) igniter was not getting voltage from control board. Need new control board. I couldn't afford his replacement cost, so I said Bye.
I'm concerned that this is not actually the igniter, as it looks more like a flame sensor now that I've looked at some furnace parts. Did he not know what he's talking about?Attachment 45537

That is an igniter, a spark igniter. You should hear a spark sound, like a spark plug when it calls for heat. It is controlled by a high voltage transformer through the control board. Most furnaces use a flat surface igniter.

During the call for heat, the fans(?) came on, I smelled the gas, but this igniter definitely was NOT getting a voltage.
I'll recheck the connections, but it sounds like either the control board is bad, the transformer is bad (?) and incapable of creating a high voltage for the igniter, or some other condition that would prevent the board from sending a voltage to the igniter (like it thinks there's already a flame).

That is a safety issue to me if gas flows but no spark. Does this igniter light the main burners or a pilot?

It may be both ignitor & flame sensor.

@ma0641 - The igniter lights the main burners. There is no pilot.
