    married, now divorcing us citizen
Hi I got married with a us citizen on January 2012 and after 6 months we decided to get divorce.I came to the us with a student visa but I was still going to school while I was married and didn't apply for green card for some reason.I got some paper from the court which shows that we are divorced. I was worried about it and the question is : since I didn't apply for green card and kept my visa status valid ,do I have to leave the country?
    Thank you

If you still have a valid student VISA... and you are still a full time student... no. If you are no longer attending school full time.. then yes.

By virtue of marriage you gained nothing automatically Even if you had not divorced.

You are here on a student visa, that did not change and will not change.

So as long as you are a student you can stay in the country with a valid visa.
So even if married, as soon as you were no longer in school, you were suppose to leave the country, getting married does not automatically do anything

As long as you are full time student with valid I-20, your status is fine. You don't need to leave the country.
