I thought if you ovulate later you should go for a progesterone test accordingly.. not always on day 21.. Am I wrong? 7 days post ovulation/7 days before pd. Day 21 would be for a 28 day cycle.. I have a 33 day cycle.

You are correct. The testing should be altered to your usual cycle length. The 21 day test is slated for a typical 28 day cycle, which many women do not have.
