My bathroom sink tends to drain slowly. I found that it will drain better after the air bubbles get taken care of. This is done by slowly running some water, then shutting the water off to release the air bubble. May have to do this a couple times before it starts to drain better, but still not the best. Down stairs sink drains much better.

What can I do to get things back to better drainage?

Air bubble from your drain indicate a partial blockage Try this, remove the bend of the trap and send 6 feet of snake into the wall. If that doesn't get it then snake the lavatory roof vent. Put out enough snake to reach the base and 15 more feet. Good luck, Tom

The first thing I would do is to purchase a "zip-it" tool (google this) and clear the pop-up area using the tool (instructions on package). If that didn't improve things, I would remove the pop-up by loosening/disconnecting the nut under the sink that holds the pop-up in place and pulling the pop-up up and out so you can clean the entire assembly (see image).

If you remove the pop-up, reinstall the nut and run hot water into the drain while using a tooth brush or a metal coat hanger or similar item to clean down inside the drain a bit.

If that fails to fix your issue, then remove the trap as Tom suggested and snake the drain into the wall!
