My fiancé and I have been trying to conceive for 2 years. I do not have insurance. I have irregular periods and my last one ended on the 4th of Jan. Today is the 17th and I have been spotting and having lots of clear watery discharge for the last 4 days. Could I be pregnant? My next period is due in about a week according to my period tracker/calendar. If I am not pregnant, what else could it be?

It could be a lot of things. I am assuming that you've been through the OB-Gyn and certified fertile? Ie, there aren't any causes to your irregular periods besides a wonky hormone cycle? I am concerned there might be something like a thyroid, or PCOS, or something that might be hindering things.

Regardless the best course of action, and it will suck, is for you to wait. The best sign of pregnancy is a missed period. Wait two weeks for your period to come and if it doesn't come within two weeks of when you expect it to then you should test to see if you've conceived, make sure to use the first urine of the day. Clear, watery discharge for a few days is often associated with impending ovulation. With irregular cycles, becoming pregnant is likely to be more difficult since you would not be ovulating regularly either, in most cases.

There are a number of ways to try and determine if, and when, you are most likely to be ovulating. Watching for changes in cervical mucus is one of them and this might be the best indicator with irregular cycles. Ovulation predictor kits is another, but with irregular cycles, it can become a bit pricey as you would be purchasing quite a few. Tracking your morning temp (basal body temp) is another way. After several months it might give you an idea of when you are most likely to ovulate. Have you been trying any of these so far?

When you last saw your doctor, did you happen to ask about ways to possibly help regulate your cycles?
