    What is the average cost per foot to have a water line installed from main to house. Its about 1200 feet.

    Exactly... as Tom stated... location and local geography play a HUGE deal in price. Light sandy soild in a remote low cost area will be significantly cheaper than rocky soil that might have huge rocks below the surface... other overhead and burried utilities to avoid, etc... particularly in an urban area that has much higher wages and lengthy and complicated permiting procedures. Not to mention the required depth due to local climate.

    And with that length the differnces can be thousands to tens of thousands in difference.

    I'd recomend getting written estimates from several contractors local to you.
