    Termination of parental rights? TN
Can a man just decide to relinquish his parental rights just because he doesn't want to pay child support? My daughter is 6 months old, her father has only seen her twice and will not speak to me, see her, or help support her. I live in TN and he is in the military. The Army base is located on the tn/ky border.

Go to court and get child support. No, he cannot just decide to relinquish his rights or responsibilities. That's a court matter too, with many mitigating factors.

There is a myth that a parent can just relinquish their rights. Its just a myth. Only a court can terminate parental rights and courts are very reluctant to do so. Generally they will only do so under very limited conditions. And never to allow a father to get out of paying support.

Also, the military takes a dim view of deadbeat dads. You need to go to court and obtain a support order and serve it on the base personnel office.

Short answer is no. Do you have a child support order? If you do ask the judge to enforce it. If not go to court to get one.

No he can not, if there is no child support order in place, get one in place and have his military pay garnished for the child support
