    Spray for mold/bugs new construction
We are having a home built and we would like to spray for mold and bugs.

We were told that this was a good idea because the wood is green and more likely to attract carpenter ants etc. Also because it is winter to spray to avoid mold.

The home is in Washington state and we would like to spray ourselves. Is there one spray for both?

Does anyone know the names of what we should use?

    Thanks:)

Not sure where you get this advice but your wood is normally kiln dried and isn't green at all. It may get damp during construction but it isn't "green". Carpenter ants and termintes can usually be stopped by a perimeter bait system, not something I'm feeling safe doing myself.

Take a look at these links to patents. Sodium borate, 20 mule team borax is used to kill ants and termites and is relatively non-toxic to humans. I could not find it again but there is a patent that uses, it think a .1% solution of borax to soak toilet paper rolls, dry them and then put them in the ground around your house to attract and kill the termite nests. The paper in the roll is much simpler to digest for the termites than normal wood so they like it better.

Here's a neat approach to pest control... There are a few companies out there that install a permanent system in the walls of the house before the interior walls are sealed with insulation and drywall. It consists of a hose network with small outlets along it's length and at least one fitting (usually installed in the garage) to pump non-toxic insecticides (or repellents) directly into the space where most pests enter the structure. I don't know anything about the regulations in Washington, though and I can't recall any company names.

Termite companies do offer pre-construction treatment around your foundation also.
