We have moved into our contract for deed home and have been living here for roughly eight months. Never had any issues with the electric but last night I turned our electric stove on and the lights dimmed badly so I turned the stove back off, which caused nearly all of our lights to go out now. Checked breaker box and none were flipped. I have even unplugged the stove and the lights refuse to work without it plugged and on. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Was there a home inspection prior to purchase ?

Did you open the breaker box and check for anything and check voltages at the various points ?

You need to get a licensed electrician on-site as quickly as possible!

Also, contact your local power company to make sure that the Neutral feeder to your home has not been compromised.

I agree with Don, call the utility and a licensed sparky without delay...

I also agree. Reset the main breaker and if that does not work, call the power company. Sounds like you have lost 1/2 of your service. Probably at the pole.
