I've just moved into an apartment which in the small bathroom has washing machine taps however no tub for it to drain into. Is it possible to hook it up to the bathtub to drain? And what pieces of equipment would I require for this?

A washing machine can drain into the tub. It will come with a drain hose and you just put it in the tub when needed. Be careful to prop something on it to hold it down slightly, because the force of the water can make the hose move. And be sure your tub has a hair/lint trap, because tub drains clog enough as it is with hair, and now you will have lint too.

If there are washing machine taps then there should be a standpipe of some kind near the taps....look around for a capped drain pipe. If you find the standpipe, the washer drain hose will simply stub down into this pipe and you would be all set (tie drain hose to pipe using a cheap cable tie or duct tape, if necessary).

If there is no standpipe, then my guess is that the landlord doesn't want you to run a washing machine and that could be for a number of reasons (are you on a septic tank?) which I won't go into at this time.

I do know, that if the landlord doesn't want you to run the washer and the washer ends up flooding the place or causing problems with drains/septic then you could be liable for any damages/issues that arise, so I have to STRONGLY advise you to chat with your landlord on this, OK?

I agree with Mark. Check with the landlord to see if he wants a washer in his bathroom. Draining into the bathtub is not a simple as laying your hose down into it. The bend of the drain hose wants to be higher than the water level in the tub or it will simply drain out. There are two solutions for this. You can prop the drain hose up or you can install a hose check valve. Let us know what you decide, good luck, Tom
