It does not matter whose name is on the loan papers but whose name is on the deed.

I would assume you both bought it, and both had names put on deed.

If not? Your partner bought a house, not you. You merely gave them money to do so ? Was there any paper work about the money you gave ?

As Chuck said it matters who is on the deed. Its actually to your advantage to not be on the mortgage if you are on the deed. However, if you aren't on the deed then you didn't buy a house, merely provided money for the purchase.
