My girlfriend has missed her period she is on the pill for around five years and has missed a few pills over the past few months she started her normal period over a month ago and a week after she was done she started another but has not started her usual time nor the lapsed time I am wondering what this could be she is worried but does not want to take a home pregnancy test

First as you and she should know, the pill when taken exactly correct is not 100 percent effective. So she can become pregnant while on the pill.

Each time she misses a pill it increases her chance of pregnancy.

Of course there can be other reasons for missed period. Various illness, stress, diet, STD, infections and dozens of others.

Pregnancy is just one, but the common one.

You did not say how "late" she was. She has to be at least two week late to take the pregnancy test. Do it first thing in the morning with the first urine of the day

She is around two weeks late from her normal time she is not under any abnormal stressors I am an EMT and I have not had to deal with this matter directly before but I am stressed and wanting her to take the test

Just remember, first urine of the morning.

Also, even at two week late, it will sometimes show negative. So if no period, you test ever week. If she misses second period, go see the doctor
