    rattling pipes
The pipes in my house have recently started "rattling" throughout the house periodically and when they do the water pulses coming out of any faucet in the house. It lasts 15-30 seconds and was happening several times a week until last night when it started occurring every couple minutes all night and continued until I left for work this morning. I assume it's still going on. I have gone to my basement when it occurs and I can feel the rattling where my water supply comes in from outside but it seems strongest coming out of water heater (2 years old).

Hopefully you mean this occurs when using water, not really all the time.

You either have a loose washer in the main shut off valve or a defective PRV (pressure reducing valve). Probably the PRV.
Try closing the main shut off valve a couple of turns. If noise changes it's the shut off valve. If no change try adjusting PRV to see if anything changes. Replace which ever is defective.

Actually it occurred every couple minutes all of last night, so the only things that might be drawing water would be the refrigerator and furnace humidifer. House is just over 20 years old, we've lived here a little over 8 years and it just started in the last month or so.
