I'm pregnant and the father of the baby is an ilegal immigrant we've bin see a solictor and they say the only way for him to stay in the country is if I give him parental rights and say that I'm not fit to look after my child on my own. I don't want to loose the father as I love him so much but I don't no what it means if I pass over the rights I don't want to loose my child nor the love of my life please help..

This makes no sense. Declaring yourself unfit as a mother will not help keep this man in the country. He's illegal, you claim yourself unfit, he's likely deported and your child is placed in foster care. But declaring yourself unfit will not make this man legal to stay in your country. You'll lose both the child and the man.

Either the solicitor you saw is a moron, or we're not getting the whole story. You need to be completely honest if you want accurate advice. Your story doesn't make sense at all.

That's what he said I need sign over parental rights to the father all I want know is doing I lose everything as a mother? Sorry if it doesn't make sense to you!

Is the solicitor being paid by the father perhaps? Lawyers tend to say what they are paid to say. :(

You can't simply sign over parental rights. You'd have to be found unfit to have your rights taken away, or you'd need to put the child up for adoption. You can't simply sign over your rights, and you can't simply claim yourself unfit.

Here's the issue, even if this scenario did work, the father is illegal in your country of residence. Having parental rights of his child after it's born will not allow him to stay in the country. So you risk losing both the child and the father because you claimed yourself unfit to be a parent.

Are you unfit? I'm thinking you are since you're actually considering doing this, and risk losing your child in the process.

That is the scariest post I've ever seen on this site by far. So lawyers don't consider the law, or the consequences, they just tell people what they want to here?

Good reason not to seek a lawyers counsel. Especially in a scenario such as the OP's, where she's actually considering giving up her child because a lawyer told her that that will keep her man in the country.

When do lawyers actually tell the truth? How much do you have to pay for that? :(

Alty, perhaps you misunderstand my previous post.

The law is frequently maleable. It is what the advocate makes it. So if you pay me to persuade the court that such-and-such is the law which should apply to your case, if I am successful that is what the court decides the law is. If you pay me to persuade another person of the merits of your case, that other person will be persuaded and act accordingly.

So that is the reason I suspect that the solicitor may be working for the child's father, not the OP.
