    Whess
How long can I keep my Mom's Estate account open?
I opened my Mom's Estate account, as I am the Executor of Her Estate, my Estate Attorney says I need to close the Estate, Probate will be over and I am to pay my Attorney, and then my Brother and Myself.
However, there will be a refund coming from the Calif State Tax Board of at least 19 thou.
I told him this and he said to split it when it comes ( well no Duh, )
But he is not to good at listening to me ( isn't the most attentive Lawyer I have met)
Any way, I want to keep the account Open after ALL funds are distributed, then deposit the Tax Return, and then split it between my Bro and Myself.
The Attorney said: "No, no, we need to close the Estate"
Can I just keep a Dollar in the Account for now to keep it open?
    Then close it later?
I don't understand where he thinks I should put the money before I split it?
    My own bank account?
I DON'T want to do that.

    Thanks.

    Wendy.

It needs to stay open till all money is received.

I may question other advice of this attorney, if he is telling you this. Some estates stay open for years.
