I think I read on your site or another, you can mix the ABS with PVC or CPVC with Universal Cement. The big box store gave me a couple elbow and a trap, all to be cemented in place. I want to know if I can put the standard white trap with threaded connections to make the trap. I have done some PVC piping before, but the permanent trap scares me. I know I should just dry fit everything and then move forward. Butt I am still leery of not having the tail of the sink line up with the trap connect. With a threaded connection I believe I would have some maneuverability.

I also made connections for the faucet on the sink while it was on a dolly, easier to work on but was not sure of torque. How tight do you go with the faucet mounts and the feed lines? I have a bit of arm strength and concerned how far ot push the envelope. Do I just go snug and a quarter turn, or crank on them. The latter is subject to perception; my strength vs say my wife’s.

I'm with you on that score. I wouldn't put in a glue up trap unless there some real need to. Not only do you have to get every thing lined up properly, you have to cut it open if you ever need to snake the line.
Assuming you have ABS piping coming out the wall, glue on a PVC trap adapter with the Universal Cement and put in an adjustable trap and arm.

Faucet should be mounted to the sink only tight enough so that it doesn't move then perhaps another 1/4 turn.
Assuming flexible supply lines they should be a little more than hand tight. Say hand tight and one more turn with a wrench.

I'm afraid my interpretation is different than Hkstroud's here.

Multi.-purpose, or all purpose cement can be used on PVC, ABS and CPVC, but it doesn't mean you can mix the different plastics... just means you can use the same cement to join PVC to PVC, ABS to ABS, and CPVC to CPVC.

Do I think cementing one trap adapter to a dissimilar plastic is going to hurt anything... heck no, I see it done by homeowners all the time and the joints always hold up.

I just don't want to see someone read this and take a box of mixed fittings and start cementing them up all over the place... ;)

I agree with that Mark. Only problem is, suppliers no longer carry ABS in my area. The most you will find is a glue on threaded ABS adapter.

To test the cement, glue up the pipe and fitting, put them together. Then pull them apart. If the some of the ABS comes off on the PVC the cement will hold.

A shielded transition clamp will also work nicely for the transition.

And there is no arguing that the ABS will weld to the PVC... like I said, I see it work all the time, so I don't want Jerdude to get all worried... wasn't the point of me posting this opinion.

You have given me more things to think about and the direction to take.
