I will be out of town for a month or 2 and am going to shut the water off at the shutoff valve in the house. I have a couple of old connections that leak and need repair but won't be able to get to them until I get back. Is there any need to drain the pipes & hot water heater ?

Not unless the temperature in your area is below freezing and the house will be left unheated. Shutting off the water when you leave on vacation is the cheapest insurance you'll ever get. Don't forget to shut the power off to your water heatetr. Good luck, Tom

No problem with the temperature. My WH is gas. If I don't drain it, is there a need to shut off the power to it?

The power source for the gas water heater is gas.

It just makes good sense to shut off ALL gas appliances. Besides, you'll be saving money on your utilities bill. Regards and have a great vacation, Tom
