Location of the points and condenser on a Briggs & Stratton 18hp. engine
On an old 18HP Briggs & Stratton engine, I want to remove a bad coil, points and condenser. Install a new Amateur Magneto because the parts have changed. Where will I find the points and condenser? Are they under the flywheel?

    Hi,
The points on an old Briggs opposed twin are NOT beneath the flywheel. They are mounted externally beneath a cover. It is wise to replace the entire unit with the integral Magnetron unit as the separate components will cost about double and still not be solid state. It is unnecessary to do anything with the points except to cut off the wire fron the coil as close to the points cover as possible. The linked parts breakdown will show the parts somewhat:

And refer to page 7 and the "Before Type 500" label.
The current part #590781 replaces the previous #394891 Magnetron armature.
    Peace,
    Clarke
