I just got the muraina iud removed and was put on pill form birth control. I started my period about 2 weeks ago and I'm still spotting and I also have a disgusting brown mucus discharge. What is going on? I stopped taking the birth control 2 days ago. I don't know what else to do.

Did you have any unprotected sex in the mean time? IE, could you be pregnant?

The effectivness of the hormonal birth control is spotty in the first month. Which is why they recommend a secondary form of birth control for that month.

The discharge could be a result of the IUD being removed. I wouldn't say it is serious. I am assuming there is no pain with it.

Yes I've been having unprotected sex pregnancy is a possibility. Its almost like this whole month I've been on my period.

I think all you can do at this point is wait and see what happens. I think you're just shedding some from the IUD removal. If you don't get a definite period in a month that is when I would start worrying.
