Mom and dad divorced at birth
I am 14 years old and live in Iowa my mom and dad divorced when I was born and I haven't met my mom ever. My mom recently found me and we've been talking secretly from my father. My father is not very fond of her and says he doesn't want me talking to her. I want to visit my mom but if I asked my father he would say absolutely not. Do I have any legal rights to decide for myself If I have the right to visit her or is it up to my father or does my mother have a legal right to visit me?

    Thanks,
    Brad

At the time your mom and dad divorced they should have gotten a child custody agreement, and also a child support agreement.

I would say you mom must have ( at that time) had some serous issues since almost never does the father get custody of a new born child.

So your mom would have those legal rights given to her under the child custody agreement. But then your dad has full right to have received all of the child support she was to pay over all those years if she has not been paying.

Your mom can sue in family court for the right to enforce her visitation or to get visitation if she does not have that right.

But since your dad has physcial custody, you need to fnd out if your mom has any visitation rights from the divorce, and if not, it will be totatlly up to your mom to file some court motions to see you.

Now if you had perosnal money, you could hire an attorney to represent you, to sue for the right to see your mom, but I am guessing at 14 you don't have 5000 to 10,000 laying around
