    New house issue
I need electrical help. I am so confused. I have 6 wires in the ceiling and two switches on different walls. In the ceiling I have two grounds, two white and two black leads. In the switch boxes I have a red wire. One of the ceiling black leads is hot.

The ceiling fan has black white and blue. How do I wire the switches and the fan?

    What was there before?
Do you know how it was wired before?

    Do you own a tester/meter?

Is there no red in the ceiling? If not then something is weird. Are you absolutely sure those switches control that ceiling box?

No red in the ceiling box. Just between the two wall switch boxes. A ceiling fan was there in the past. I do have a test meter and have numbered all of the wires

    At the ceiling:
Black wire #4 always hot goes to what we will call switch box B.
White wire#8 goes to Switch box B and is tied to other white wires
Black wire #6 goes to switch box A
White wire #7 goes to switch box A and B

Between the two Switch boxes is a Red wire #1
Between the two Switch boxes is a Black wire we will call #2

This would make much more sense if you would append pictures of the switch boa and the overhead box, please.

I am sorry, I really don't know how to append pictures.

If you look at the bottom of the "Quick Answer" box, you will see a "Go Advanced" button. That's how to add a picture.

While I'm thinking of it, is the power being fed via the ceiling or via the switches? I'm trying to figure out if you have two switch loops (ceiling to wall).

Switches use only the hot side. So normally what you would find is the Hot (black) would connect to the White going to the switch and the black from the switch would be the return to the fan.

I just can't see what you have.

It seems power is being fed from the ceiling via what I have labeled black #4.

Can you determine if there are two cables going to the switches or a 3 wire cable going to the switches?

It appears that there is a three wire cable between the switch boxes and a two wire coming in from the ceiling, one to each of the two switch boxes.

If you have a black and white at ceiling, connect fan black and blue to that and white to white. Measure voltage between those two. If 120VAC, good to go.

Yes sir and that would absolutely work. However, I would have to rely on the internal fan switches to turn the fan and light on and off. I would like to use the wall switches for that purpose. I appreciate the suggestion though.
