Sounds like they obtained a default judgement against him. Why should they negotiate now?

Ok the time to settle or negotiate was before you go to court,

And then he had a right to go to court and try to show the judge he had made valid offers to settle. Or to show he did not owe the debt.

But he decided not to defend hisself in court and they got a judgement, so now they may attach ( take or freese) any of his bank accounts, and garnish his pay till they are paid off.

So why should they settle now, they can just take what they want.
Now it is just basiclly just time to pay them.

Thanks for the help I was just grasping at straws in hopes I could give my daughter a better answer than I had. He did not tell her so I guess if you marry an idiot you have to suffer in more ways than one Thanks

If they did something wrong, if there was some error, you can make a motion with the court to vacate the judgement, but there has to be some reason, many who come here are not notified of the court date and that gives them a reason. You can always take all of this info to an attorney and see if they can find some "loop" home in it.
