I am planning to upgrade this bathroom. Built in 1955 with lath & plaster and raised foundation construction.

Looking at tub/shower enclosures online is pretty disappointing since all the options were 60". From wall to wall is dead on 59".

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

That is a 60" tub. You will need to remove the inside walls. Since it is lath and plaster you may find that after removal, you could pick up the 1" needed and still install some backing.

Thank you very much for the info. Would the wall have to be removed the entire height of the enclosure? Looks like most are 74.5 inches in height.

You pretty much need 60" parallel. You may be able to remove the plaster from just one wall. I would also check all the floor pans, you might find one 59".

Pans normally come in 12" increments, Swanstone pans made to replace a tub are 60' but also come in 48". I'd rip out all three walls since it is doubtful they are water proof. You will gain more than an inch. Cover the walls with cement board and/or Schluter®-KERDI system
