    Fianacial aid for offenders
I am an ex-felon. I know that there are grants out there for felons wishing to go back to school. Where can I find these grants/ I have been out of prison since January 12, 2012. I was convicted of non violent crimes. What assistance can I get to go back to school?

"I know that there are grants out there for felons wishing to go back to school". This has been posted so many times and is an urban legend. There are NO specific monetary programs for convicted felons. Private loans are available for nearly anyone needing financial assistance. In nearly every case, those with drug convictions are not eligible for government assistance and some loans. Most felonies do not hinder students from acquiring education, but sometimes felonies in a related field can cause problems for an individual. Standard financial aid is about what you will get.
